
Criss Brainard is a 30-year veteran of the Fire and Paramedic service
and is currently an Operations Deputy Chief for the San Diego Fire
Rescue Department. His career includes assignments as the a Shift
Commander, EMS Chief, Supervisor in the Metro Arson Strike Team,
Accelerant Detection Canine Handler, Medical Team Manager for San
Diego’s California Urban Search and Rescue Team Task Force 8, Training
Division and Paramedic.
Criss has been a member of the Board of Directors for San Miguel
Consolidated Fire protection District for 12 years and was just
re-elected for a fourth term. His education includes degrees in Fire
Science, Paramedicine and is a Master Instructor. He is a regular
presenter at National Fire and EMS Conferences, has authored numerous
articles and is on the Editorial Board for Elsevier (JEMS)
Criss has been married for 28 years to his wife Shauna and they have two
sons; Brent who is a Firefighter-paramedic for San Diego Fire Rescue and
Derek who is a Paramedic for Rural Metro.
