  • What if I have additional questions that are NOT answered on the website?

Candidates are encouraged to attend a “Question and Answer” informational session located at San Miguel Fire District Headquarters on October 22, 2006 from 1300 – 1600 hours.

  • When is the next anticipated application period?

Applications are currently being accepted, with the deadline for submittal being 1630 hours on October 20, 2006– No Exceptions! Applications must be submitted in-person. The application may be downloaded by clicking here. Please refer to the attached job announcement by clicking here.

  • How many positions do you expect to fill?

Approximately 30 – 40 positions are expected to be filled.

  • When is the Reserve Academy scheduled to begin?

The tentative date is January, 2007. Check for updates on the website frequently.

  • How do I obtain and submit my application?

Applications are available for download by clicking here, or may be picked-up at either of the locations listed below. Applications must be submitted in-person at either:

  • Should I submit a resume with my application?

No, however, it is highly encouraged to provide the interview panel with copies at the time of your interview.

  • Do I need to submit a sealed transcript to show proof of education or classes taken?

Unsealed copies of transcripts are acceptable.

  • Should I submit copies of my certifications?

Yes.

  • I am currently in EMT school and expect to be finished after I submit my application – what do I do?

Document the completion date on your application, as long as you expect to have your San Diego County EMT-1A accreditation prior to the beginning of the Academy (January, 2007).

  • Where can I find my assigned time and location of the written and physical abilities tests?

The written test is scheduled to take place on October 28 th, 2006 at the San Miguel Fire District Headquarter facility for all eligible applicants. An ineligible applicant list will be posted at www.smgfire.org and on the front door of the San Miguel Fire District Headquarter facility on October 25, 2006. Specific times TBA. All times are subject to change. Check for updates on the website frequently.

  • Will there be a practice physical abilities test?

No.

  •  How do I determine my status in the application process?

Updates will be provided on the website and the front door of the San Miguel Fire District Headquarters utilizing your control number. Your control number is the last four digits of your social security number. More information TBA. Check for updates on the website frequently.

  • So which Reserve Program will I be working for?

Following Academy completion, Recruits will participate in a “draft process” to determine which Reserve Program they will be with. Details TBA.

  • What can a Recruit in the Academy expect to pay for certifications and uniforms?

Academy Recruits will be responsible for Miramar College registration fees totaling approximately $234 (9 units @ $26 per unit; with the possibility of per unit fees decreasing.) Candidates will also be responsible for purchasing their own uniform and safety shoes at the approximate cost of $500.
